E.A. Poole General Merchandise, aka Poole’s Cross Roads, was built ca. 1900 at the rural crossroads of US-178 and SC-3 in Lexington County. Elza ran the store until 1941, when he was killed in a car accident on the way to his store.
Location: US-178 and SC-3, Swansea, South Carolina
Just stopped at a stand there selling pickles, crafts and yard sale items. Would love to know more history and see pictures of what it used to look like back in it’s operating days. It’s an amazing building.
Grew up in Woodford SC near this location but never visited the store. Was a large pond for yrs behind the crossroads and store where we went swimming but one day it was no longer. Any more info is appreciated
Does anybody know when the store was last open day and year thank you
