The Catawba Rosenwald School was built in 1924-25 as plan number 20 in the Rosenwald Book, a 2 teacher rural school. The Rosenwald fund contributed $700 of the total cost of $2,800. The school served the African-American community in the Catawba area of York County from its opening in 1925 until 1956, when it was closed. There were 20 Rosenwald Schools built in York County between 1917 and 1932, and only 2 are still standing.
