Van Mungo Company Building

The Van Mungo Company Building in pageland was a staple of the town, not just because what the store stood for, but also because of the person behind the store. If you visited the Van Mungo Company in the 1930’s, you likely ran into Henry Van Mungo. In an article in 1936, Henry Van Mungo says he just runs the store while his son, Van Lingle Mungo, was busy playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Van Lingle Mungo had the Van Mungo Company, “Pageland’s own shopping center,” the Mungo Company grocers, and the Mungo Gin Company cotton gin.
