Ensor-Keenan House

The Ensor-Keenan House was built in 1868 by Dr. Joshua Fulton Ensor, a major in the Union Army during the Civil War who was sent to Columbia to treat wounded Union soldiers. In 1870, Ensor became the second medical superintendent of the State Asylum (South Carolina State Hospital).

The house restored by William Joseph Keenan Jr. Keenan founded the Columbia Petroleum Co., which later became Keenan Oil Co. He was instrumental in forming the First National Bank of South Carolina and was a founding director of South Carolina Electric & Gas Co.
