The John T. Stevens House, also known as the Dr. Blackwell House, was built around 1918. Stevens started the Kershaw Cotton Oil Mill and Stevens Oil Company. By 1924 he owned 24 cotton oil mills in South Carolina, 20 in Alabama, 20 in Mississippi and 17 in Georgia
