Lewis Inn

Built of dovetailed logs in 1750, the Lewis Inn sat on the Saluda Trail in Lewis Turnout, once a popular stagecoach route. In 1780, Colonel James Lyles died on the steps of the Lewis Inn. Aaron Burr, US Vice President from 1801-1805, stayed here during transport while under arrest for the murder of Alexander Hamilton. Legend has it that Burr briefly escaped while staying here
