St. Helena Parish Chapel of Ease

The St. Helena Parish Chapel of Ease was built ca. 1740 by planters on Saint Helena Island as a chapel of ease for parishioners who had difficulty traveling to worship at the main parish church in Beaufort. After the civil war, the church was used by various freedmen’s groups that supported the education of recently freed enslaved people. The church burned in a forest fire in 1886.
