The Church of Advent (Episcopal Church of the Advent) is the first Episcopal congregation organized in Spartanburg County. The sanctuary was designed in 1851 by the Reverend John DeWitt McCollough and the building was completed in 1864. A bell tower was added in 1870 and the sanctuary was enlarged in 1897.
