Nathaniel Gist House

The Nathaniel Gist House was built ca. 1855. Nathaniel Gist, Jr. was born at the Wyoming Plantation near Jonesville and he, along with his brother Joseph Fincher Gist, built this house. Nathaniel married his 1st cousin Mary McDaniel. When Nathaniel died, his children deeded the home to Joseph, where he lived until he died. The US Forest Service purchased the house and land to add to the Sumter National Forest. The home was later sold to the Fant family that saved the house from being lost and vandalized.
