Dr. Ruff graduated from the South Carolina Medical College (now MUSC) in 1832. Dr. Ruff outlived both of his wives and all of his children. The home was purchased by the Cobb family in 1898 and was lived in by the family until 1998. The Cobb family donated the house to Preserve South Carolina.
