Organized in 1784 as the Church of Christ on Tyger River, it was renamed to Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church in 1803. This current sanctuary was built in 1844. Padgett’s Creek was a meeting place for a secession meeting on August 29, 1851 attended by Senator and later Governor William H. Gist and Congressman Daniel Wallace.
