Coleman Building

The Coleman Building was built ca 1902 by John Coleman, one of Darlington’s leading tobacco buyers. Coleman replace an old ramshackle wooden store that fronted the public square. The former building was deemed an eye-sore and a real mortification to all of Darlington.

  1. I spent one night in this hotel in midsummer of 1967. I was on my way to 6 weeks of
Summer camp at Fort Bragg, N. C. Being a stock car racing fan, I wanted to see the historic
Darlington Raceway. I did have the opportunity to see the track and tour the on-site stock car
museum. After graduating from the University of Alabama in 1970, I was able to attend several races
at this track. Great memories I will cherish till I pass.
