  1. Hello Chris. My name is Mark Dreher and I live in the Chicago area.. I know very little about the history of my Dreher family roots other than I had relatives ( my father and grandparents, all deceased ) lived in New Baden Illinois. I just watched an episode of “Finding Our Roots” on PBS and began to wonder if my Dreher ancestors were slave owners. I see the Dreher name was fairly prominent in Lexington County SC. From what I’ve read it appears they owned this 600 acre planation dating back to the days of slavery but can’t find any evidence stating that they actually owned slaves. I’ve also read that apprx 12% of German immigrants were slave owners. Wondering if you can shed any light on this.

I look forward to your reply

    Thanks
