Stumphouse Tunnel

The Stumphouse tunnel began construction in 1856 and was abandoned in 1859. It was intended to be used by the Blue Ridge Railroad. Only 1,617 feet of the planned 5,863 total feet were completed. In the 1950s Stumphouse tunnel was used by Clemson University to grow blue cheese
