In 1883, the Newberry Fire Department was formed, housed originally in the Opera House. Their own building was built next door and the Works Progress Administration remodeled the firehouse in the 1930’s, expanding the building and giving it the Art Deco look. It was decommissioned in 1980, remodeled in 2005, and is now a conference center
