Merridun is a large antebellum house featuring a massive two-storied portico with Corinthian columns. Built ca. 1855 by W. J. Keenan, Merridun was considerably altered around the turn of the century. One of Merridun’s previous owners, Thomas Duncan, built the Union Cotton Mill, Buffalo Cotton Mill, the Union and Glenn Springs Railroad and the hydroelectric plant at Neal Shoals. Duncan’s political career included terms as Mayor of Union, a SC Representative, and a SC Senator

  1. I see that Merridun has recently been sold (Jan. 2024). I am happy to hear this and hoping that new owners plan to refurbish her to her former glory. This home is glorious with a magnificent history. I hope that they do not plan on razing this beautiful place.
