Johann de Kalb b. 1721 in Holy Roman Empire (now Germany). DeKalb served in the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years’ War before serving as with the French in the American Revolutionary War 1777-1780. He was at Valley Forge before the Battle of Camden. He was so highly regarded that even Cornwallis was saddened to see him so badly wounded.
