St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church was established in 1839 and built in 1854. This church was originally a chapel of ease until 1889. It is the oldest continuous church and oldest public building in Ridgeway

Henry Clarence Davis graduated West Point and entered the Army as 2nd Lieutenant. He served as a Professor of Military Science at Mississippi A&M, then at West Point. On March 8, 1898, he was transferred to the 7th Artillery in Puerto Rico where he was promoted to Major. He then taught thousands of Army and Navy personnel about mines and artillery. He retired as a Colonel, only to be recalled in WWI to teach commanding officers at USC
