This church began in 1823 as Edgefield Village Baptist Church and this 3rd sanctuary was built in 1914. In 1826, the Furman Academy and Theological Institution was established in Edgefield as a result of efforts by the church. The Academy later became Furman University in Greenville

The Israel Mukashy Building was built in 1891 by James Cobb. It replaced the store and barroom of A.A. Clisby that burned in 1881. Israel Mukashy, a Jewish merchant who had emigrated from Russia in 1905, was a mobile merchant in 1908 that moved into this building in 1920. He retired in 1950
