On March 14, 1960, two African American students from Allen University conducted a sit-in demonstration by sitting down at a booth at the lunch counter in an Eckerd’s drug store. This building was built between 1892-1895, originally the Canal Dime Savings Bank and then an Eckerd’s Drug Store (1936). It is a three-story, Romanesque Revival style brick building with a granite façade and red barrel tile roof

Israel Mukashy, a Jewish merchant who had emigrated from Russia in 1905, was a mobile merchant in 1908 that moved into this building in 1920. He retired in 1950

The church building was moved on logs to McCormick during 1884-6. In 1934 the church was turned to face Gold Street and then pink granite veneer was applied
