The Dr. William Columbus Cauthen House (Oak Farm) was built ca. 1848 and is the oldest known residence in Lancaster County. Dr. Cauthen was born near Hanging Rock, attended medical school, then returned to begin his medical practice. He married his cousin Margaret Jane Cauthen and built this house for her. Dr. Cauthen was active in state politics and was part of the secession movement
