The R. L. Sturgis home was built ca. 1905. Sturgis was on the Rock Hill City Council in the early 1900s. He helped start the York County Southern Cotton Association in 1905

The Withers Building was built in 1891 and remodeled in 1912-1913. The Winthrop Training School (as listed on the building) in Rock Hill, SC, is a public university founded in 1886
