The library is a one-story over raised basement red brick Classical Revival building constructed according to the designs of Arthur W. Hamby, of Columbia. In 1937 the original structure was doubled in size by a rear addition. The library closed in 1972 and became a county administration building

James Jenkins, an early circuit-riding minister, and John Buchanan, a captain in the Revolution. Pioneer American Methodist bishop Francis Asbury visited here from 1809 to 1814. This building (1908) is the congregation’s third structure

Sadly, the jail did burn on December 29, 1979, when an inmate set the building on fire. The event killed 11 prisoners. The building was no longer used following the tragedy, though it remains an historical reminder of the innovative thinking of Robert Mills
